paul thomas anderson faqs
i wish to purchase some of paul’s short films (the dirk diggler
story, cigarettes & coffee, flagpole special)! how can i do this?
do you have them?
at
the moment, the short films are owned exclusively by paul and there is
no legitimate way to obtain them. we have several stills from them up
in our feature films section though - hopefully they are enough to keep
you calm until paul decides to let the world see them in their entirety.
which he probably never will.
what
about his music videos?

'6 music videos' contains
try - michael penn
save me - aimee mann
across the universe - fiona apple
fast as you can - fiona apple
limp - fiona apple
paper bag - fiona apple
6
music videos is next to impossible to find and was circulated privately
by paul. very few copies were made. however, fiona apple’s "across
the universe” is available on the pleasantville dvd, michael penn’s
"try" is on the boogie nights dvd, and aimee mann’s "save
me" is on the magnolia dvd. also, recently, "fast as you can"
& "limp" are available for download on the iTunes store
for 2 dollars each.
what about paul's screenplays? i feel a sudden need to collect them all
and put them in my nest
boogie
nights, magnolia, and punch-drunk love have been released as script books
with introductions by pta, deletedscenes, pictures, and interviews. they
can be purchased at most bookstores online or a local bookstore in your
area. hard eight has not been released as a book and it seems unlikely
that it will be. keep your eyes peeled for 'there will be blood'
the scripts do not satisfy my urges. where can i find the soundtracks
to all his films?
the
soundtrack and score to hard eight has never been released, but it is
floating around the internet. the michael penn/aimee mann duet "christmastime"
which plays during the closing credits is available on the aimee mann
christmas single. you can purchase this directly from www.aimeemann.com
if you feel like it.
there were two separate volumes released for boogie nights including some
of the michael penn score music. it can be easily purchased from amazon.com
the magnolia release was the most complete thus far, including a soundtrack
with songs by aimee mann, supertramp and gabrielle, while the complete
film score composed by jon brion was released separately.
why
wasn't the dirk diggler story/excerpts from the john holmes 'exhausted'
documentary included on the new boogie nights dvd? i was awake for so
long
pta
had briefly considered including the dirk diggler story, but ultimately
decided against it. exhausted ran into legal difficulties and was axed
at the last minute.
what
was pta's involvement with saturday night live?
paul
has only been involved with one episode of the show thus far. his parody
of mtv's FANatic with ben affleck, molly shannon and jimmy fallon first
debuted on february 19th, 2000, and has been repeated several times since.
site faqs
who are these new guys? what is this? what?
the site was run by greg mariotti and myself (cj)
for over six years. in the middle of 2005, half of the team jumped on
a bird's back and flew away to other endeavors - leaving the site fully
in my hands. i instantly recruited mr. jeff zee - who had contributed
things when called upon over the years - he is multi-talented individual
of all trades and we do our best to steer this mother on a daily basis.
we are both filmmakers, living in vancouver, british columbia. the dust is settling from my recent short 'circumference', and jeff is busy cutting 'hat trick'.
what the bloody eff does cigarettes and/or red vines have to do with paul
thomas anderson? you dummies.
formerly this site was called 'cigarettes &
coffee' - when the site was re-launched with myself and jeff running the
show, we wanted a name that was something similar but different. the song:
"cigarettes and red vines," written by aimee mann, was written
about paul. the lyrics seem to hint towards aimee's fear about magnolia's
success and many other things that can be easily interpreted on your own
if listened to with an analytical ear.
so we stole it for our own use.
why don't you have hundreds of dvd captures of menus and scenes from pta's
movies? what happened to all the magazine covers?
while
we pride ourselves in being a comprehensive resource, we also try to offer
relevant, useful, and accessible content. there is always more we have
to be added to the site, but it really isn't necessary. the demand to
see what the scene selection menus of magnolia look like in foreign languages
doesn't seem to be very high, so some of the content you may remember
from previous versions of the site has been trimmed or removed in the
interest of giving you the best and most useful information.
